Benito Gateway to the Valley As you travel north on Hwy 83, through the Duck Mountains, you find yourself in a beautiful tranquil valley and the Village of Benito. Benito is a friendly close-knit community and has everything that is needed for a good life. It has a grocery store, a meat market, a café & lounge, hardware store, health & hobby shop, home-building centre, a credit union, post office, a pharmacy, Sears outlet, insurance & autopac agency, a hair and tanning shop, a welding shop, a cabinet making shop, a liquor store, a Saskatchewan bus stop, three service stations, a car & truck wash, an electrician, a sign painter, a manicure shop, carpenters, caterers, artists, photographers and crafts people. Three churches and a K to Grade 8 school serve the community. The library provides activities and support for all age groups. The Seniors Drop In Centre is a gathering place for coffee, conversation and a game of pool. The Medical Centre and Personal Care Home provide professional care with a Doctor coming in several times a week. Benito Emergency Services have trained professionals on their First Responders Unit and Fire Department. Ag Shield Manufacturing is internationally known for its manufacturing of farm equipment and is a major employer in the area. The Benito and Distric Recreation Centre has the largest banquet facilities in the area and is used for many events. Curling is a big part of the community. World Champion, Ed Werenich got his start here and many other great curlers have come from Benito. In summer, the quality of life is enhanced by swimming, fishing, boating, quading, horseback riding, camping, or golfing at nearby Madge Lake. In winter, Thunderhill Ski Hill is full of activities, with skiing and snowboarding. On a lighter note ~ living so close to the Saskatchewan border presents a challenge each summer in having to deal with two time zones. Many of the world's problems are discussed and analyzed by regular patrons at the local coffee shops and gathering places.
